Quarantine Day 2
Saturday, March 14, 2020
We have been advised to self-quarantine, which involves not participating in any large gatherings and leaving at least 6’ of space between people. Everyone who can work at home is advised to do so. We are not to visit people in their homes. They say this will continue for a month, maybe more.
We are beginning to define the concept of “social distance,” which is what they are calling the 6 feet we are supposed to keep between ourselves and others. Some people are calling it “physical distance” to indicate that although we are not physically close to each other, there is no need to be socially isolated.
There are lots of concerns about what will happen with schools. Classrooms are closed and parents are supposed to take over, perhaps with some sort of online lessons. But how that will work is still a big question mark.
Stores continue to be open as normal. People at risk are advised to use online shopping options or to have others to shop for them. I did some grocery shopping earlier in the week, so I don’t think I’ll starve. I don’t have a lot of provisions since I haven’t been in my house long, but I’ll manage. I also have medicine for several months. I shouldn’t have any issues.
Really bad news this afternoon — the ibrary shut down completely when it closed at 5 PM. All meetings in the library’s public rooms had already been cancelled. Good thing I have multiple library books already checked out, plus a couple of eBook (and the ability to check out or purchase more if needed), and several audiobooks and the ability to purchae more. I also have a bunch of my own books on a TBR pile, a well a a couple of boxes of Little Free Library books. I think I will be OK.
