10,000 Dead

Monday, April 6, 2020

The nation hit a milestone today — 10,000 people dead as a result of COVID19. I just heard a doctor on TV say there will be a time that we’ll look back and wish we were at only 10,000.

On a more positive note, new predictions came out today with a significant decrease of the number of people who will be killed by the virus. Last week government officials were saying there could be 100,000-250,000 dead in the US. Today’s prediction, which came from taking pieces of three different models and includes the impact of social isolation, says that number could be as low as 82,000. Of course, that’s still horrible, but so much better.

The country is made up of two groups — those who agree Trump is completely out of his depth and is making decisions that are costing lives, and those who believe he is doing a wonderful job and all the criticism is fake news. I don’t understand how people I love and respect can look at the same information I do and reach such a different conclusion. I would be one of the first people to say we shouldn’t politicize our response to the pandemic, but Trump won’t let go of politics long enough to accomplish anything.

History, if there is history, will document all his screwups.
