Rhonda's Rules for Using Social Media (or How NOT to be Stupid)
Sunday, August 23, 2020
DO NOT
- Believe everything you read and hear on social media. And the corollary: Don't dismiss something you read or hear as “fake news” simply because you disagree with it.
DO NOT
- Repeat things you heard without substantiating the information elsewhere.
DO NOT
- Assume that anyone who disagrees with you politically cannot be a Christian. I assure you God is neither a Democrat nor a Republican, no matter what the politicians say.
DO
- Listen to people on both sides of an issue
- Evaluate the credibility of sources of information
- Seek further data to support or counter something we’ve heard
- Research how social media can be used to manipulate users
- Think carefully before you post anything that could be harmful or hurtful to fellow Christians or to the purpose of sharing God’s love with the world
RW
Inspired by posts I read on Facebook from two different friends insisting that there was no way someone could call themselves a Christian and vote for Biden. This hatefullness is getting out of control.
